Spinal Syringe
Designed for vertebroplasty procedures, the syringe and catheter allow the surgeon to inject material whilst outside of the X-ray field. Material is ejected into the site quickly by pushing the plunger forward, and for final accurate placement the screw mechanism is engaged to give precise control.
Material placed in the wrong part of the vertebrae can cause suffering to the patient. Through design of its geometry and material selection, the syringe plunger has a very low resistence to give the surgeon a high degree of sensitivity to place an accurate amount of cement into a precise position. Dispensing viscous and quick setting cement through a small bore catheter required careful design of the screw thread drive to give the surgeon good control.
The product function is technically demanding, but we were still able to create a good design which is ergonomically easy and comfortable to use.
