Oxoid Cap


In meeting the technical requirements for the cap, an effective aesthetic was created reflecting Oxoid's company values.

The design is efficient from an economic perspective . . .
// for long life mould runs, careful attention was paid to avoid tool weak spots
// to reduce assembly cost, the bung is held automatically with the cap closure
// the cap bulk was optimized to minimize material costs
// to reduce process costs, the cap was designed in one piece

The design is effective from a user perspective . . .
// the grips are ergonomically designed to unscrew the cap easily with gloves on
// the cap clip lock is tight enough to be secure, whilst easy enough to lift the cap
// a protective ring is incorporated to reduce injury risk from the needle skidding

Getting to manufacture was fast, with the strength and feel of the hinge and clip lock resolved during the design stage rather than during production sampling. The attention to detail during the early stage design paid dividends later in the project.

So even the simplest of products can be well thought out and designed to be hassle free for production and for the end user.
