HiVac Syringe and Dispensing Gun
The product ambition was simple; to contribute to the longevity of hip replacements by mixing and preparing the best quality bone cement during surgery.
The result is the HiVac syringe, which produces bone cement with higher fatigue life properties and lower variability compared to other commercially available mixing systems.
The device is intuitive and simple to use, gaining the nurse precious time in a time pressured procedure. The comfort of the handle and mechanical advantage designed into the drive mechanism means little effort is needed by the nurse to mix even viscous cements.
The blade geometry is efficient at mixing the cement throughly and quickly under high vacuum, and as the syringe is transparent the nurse can directly see when the cement is mixed through.
The dispensing gun has a ratchet drive to deliver the cement under pressure into the femoral cavity.
This successful product is still being manufactured 14 years after its launch.
