Benches . . . Aero & Urbane
These two styles of bench were designed with aesthetics to suit different environments, but they share a common approach in design.
Both benches have convex seat surfaces to encourage short stay rest and dissuade people from lying on the benches. Compared to the usual concave bench seat, the convex form relieves pressure from the back of the thighs so improving comfort. The curved surfaces ensure rain doesn't puddle and runs off quickly.
The short cross members are stronger than the traditional longitudinal planks and can be made more easily from re-cycled wood or plastic. Both benches are designed to be vandal-proof.
The Aero bench, with laser-cut stainless steel endplates, has a lightweight aesthetic and is designed to compliment the modern eclectic built environment.
The Urbane bench, with reconstituted stone ends, has a more solid and robust aesthetic to empathise with more traditional urban public spaces.
